Project overview

The NSW Government has improved accessibility at Killara Station.

The upgrade was delivered as part of the Transport Access Program, an initiative to provide a better experience for public transport passengers by delivering accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure across the state.

Key benefits

  • three lifts with canopy coverage – one on each side of the footbridge, and one to the station platforms 
  • pedestrian footbridge extension connecting the new lifts 
  • improvements to the station building to provide a new family accessible toilet and a unisex ambulant toilet 
  • a new canopy at the boarding assistance zone on Platform 1 
  • footpath upgrades on Werona Avenue and Culworth Avenue 
  • upgrades to stairs at Werona Avenue and Culworth Avenue including new handrails 
  • two new deflection walls – one on each side of the rail corridor in proximity to the footbridge 
  • upgrades to the station platforms including resurfacing and installation of tactile surface ground indicators 
  • formalised accessible parking, and kiss and ride parking on Culworth Avenue 
  • power supply upgrades to support the new infrastructure. 
  • improvements to lighting, ticketing facilities, CCTV and station communications.

Project status

Killara Station Upgrade is now open, and the station is now more accessible, allowing for safer, easier and more convenient travel for all passengers.  

Passengers are able to use the station’s three new lifts and improved accessibility features. 

Transport for NSW would like to thank the community for their continued support and cooperation during the upgrade.

Although the main upgrade work is complete, minor finishing work will continue until March 2024, including additional electrical work, landscaping and work on the deflection walls in the rail corridor.

Project history

  • Planning approval for the Killara Station Upgrade was granted following​ the public display of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) between 30 June and 27 July 2021.
  • The project received 15 submissions in response to the project's REF. Each submission was considered by the project team and responded to in a Determination Report (PDF, 10.14 MB).
  • Transport for NSW would like to thank the community for their feedback during the planning process.
