Transport heritage subsidies and grants

On 17 May 2013, the Minister for Transport released All Aboard! A fresh start for transport heritage in NSW, an independent review of the management of transport heritage in this state.

The review made 10 recommendations aimed at supporting the heritage sector in the preservation of hertiage assets and to increase its capacity to contribute to tourism and regional development in NSW.

One of the recommendations of the review was that transport for NSW should develop a clear policy on subsidies to the rail heritage sector.

A policy paper was prepared in response to this recommendation. The policy:

  • Describes new arrangements for heritage preservation works under Custody Management Agreements.
  • Describes existing Government subsidies for public liability insurance and national safety accresitation fees.
  • Proposes criteria to asses eligibility for subsidies and
  • Proposes a new transport heritage grants and funding program.
